i am using visual studio 2013 and often set break point on code when call store procedure. when we are passing data to store proc that we can debug from IDE but some time we need to debug store proc from VS IDE 2013. so please tell me way out to debug store
proc from VS2013 IDE when we pass data from my program to store proc.
I have different solutions created with multiple projects under each solution.
Would appreciate what would be best practice to reference an assembly created in one solution with all the projects in another solution. If I have to add reference to the assembly in all the projects, building the solution creates issue always hence I had
to select a project and build.
Ex:
Solution A has projects 1,2,3
Solution B has projects 1,2,3 all these need to reference Project 1 in solution A
I have moved from VS Express for Web 2012 to Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition.
I am developing an MVC application.
One of the most shocking changes I've seen is that when I use Ctrl + F5 for testing, I sometimes get the previous build, so none of my new code changes go through.
I have to use F5 for the changes to go through. On my 2012 software, the changes just took every time.
I use Ctrl F5 a heck of a lot more and save F5 for the more confusing problems if I actually need to debug something. So much that maybe I should just change the hotkeys for this. I wonder if I'm the minority in this habit.
Anyway, is there a way to have Ctrl F5 return to the state where it accepts my new code changes?
in Visual Studio (2010), I go to File > New Website > ASP.Net Web Site, I view 'Default.aspx' in browser, I register as a new member, this creates ASPNETDB_TMP.MDF in the app data folder (and aspnetdb_log.ldf), and ASPNETDB.MDF in 'Data connections' in the server explorer plus associated folders such as 'Tables' etc.
I've now created a membership site with database, which I can run on my pc.
How do I get that onto my hosting package? I've got sqldb publishing wizard, and sql management studio installed, but I cannot work out how to get it to my hosting, I use websitepanel on an MS platform.
Using VS 2015, I can get a control with the cursor and drag it across the toolbox but when it hits the design surface it becomes a forbidden cursor. Thanks.
I've tried rebooting and I've also tried reloading VS. I've also tried running the NetFix Tool.
In VS2017 Community I got a notification "You have a license for Visual Studio Enterprise 2017. Get it now.". I have no knowledge of buying an Enterprise license. Is this a bug?
I want to ask a question which has been a headache for me since 1 to 2 years. I am using VS 2010 with Crystal Reports 13 version. My problem is this, every thing was running fine, but on one morning, when i was designing a crystal reports in vs 2010 in my
development machine, when i wanted to take print preview in design mode, my Visual Studio 2010 crashed unexpectedly and restarted. Since then, every time when i develop a report, and i want to view it on designer mode, my visual studio 2010 crashed. When i
run the application, and take preview, it runs fine, but in designing mode, Visual Studio 2010 crashes. Please help me in this regards it has been 2 years i am having this problem.
Hello everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I need to update the nugget packages in a solution as it appears some of the MVC functionality is not working correctly. However, since this project is used extensively in production. I would prefer to
make an identical copy of the solution under a different name before updating the packages as I've heard some nightmare stories of updating gone bad. I've read several posts about making copies and opening under another name, but I suspect that is not the
best way to handle this. Any help would be appreciated.
My problem: I'm trying to simply change the width of a modal-dialog from standard 600px to 900px but it keeps getting overridden by this "phantom" file.
I just downloaded VS 2017. I have the server explorer window opened and connected to a database. The problem I'm having is the query designer toolbar is disabled.
I'm using Visual Studio 2017 Express and SQL Server 2014 Express.
I created a new ASP.NET Web Application Project - Web Forms withIndividual User Accounts authentication.
This, of course, means that as soon as I run the application and register a new user, an SQL database is automatically created in theApp_Data folder. That all works fine.
However, I'd like to be able to access this database using SQL Server 2014 Express - because you get more options (such as backup and restore) than inVS2017's SQL Server Object Explorer.
But when I use SQL Server 2014 Express to attach the database I get the message:
"The database <DB-NAME> cannot be opened because it is version 852. This server supports version 782 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported."
Okay so VS2017 uses a more up to date SQL Server than
SQL Server 2014 (versions 13.0.4001 and 12.0.2269 respectively).
So I can't access it from SQL Server 2014 and I can't installSQL Server 2016 because I'm using Windows 7 and don't fancy upgrading the entire operating system.
Or going back to VS2015.
Or buying a new computer.
So my questions are:
(1) Is there some way to backup and restore a database using VS2017's SQL Server Object Explorer?
(2) And just as you can target a project to an earlier .NET Framework version, can you do the same with SQL Servers? Is there some way I can tell VS2017 to use SQL Server 2014 rather than itsbuilt in and apparently newer one?

One would think it was quite logical - the name of the IDE is _VISUAL_ studio. There should be GUIs for everything, including things like migrations.
I really don't like having to type text commands to make changes to my projects.
It could have been made so simple as to just right-click on the solution name in the solution explorer, select Add > Migration > get a dialog box prompting for migration name, dbcontext, etc.
I am setting up new Win 8 laptop. Have added IIS8 and .Net Framework 3.5 and4.5 using "add Windows features", and downloaded and installed VWS2008 Express, since I have used this tool extensively a on prior Vista laptop and have several websites targeted
to .NET2.0. VWS2008 actually targets to .NET 3.5 which is supposedly compatible with .NET 2.0.
When I create a new test website using VWS 2008. It tells me that "ASP.Net 2.0 has not been registered on the web server. You need to manually configure your web server for ASP.NET 2.0 in order for your site to run correctly"
I did change the .NET Framework version to v.2.0.50727 in the IIS root directory, which is my account name on this computer.
Question: if this doesn't "register" ASP.Net 2.0 on my IIS8 web server, what does?
So I ignore the warning, and it creates a site, but the web.config file seems grossly incompatible with the installed IIS8.
My attempt to run the default webpage created by VWS 2008 failed, first because it detected duplicate .config sections (the parent sites not allowing overrides of things like ScriptResourceHandler).
After resolving these problems, it reports that it cannot find my Default.aspx file. It can find and display a .htm file from the site. So the issue is with ASP.Net 2.0 running under IIS8. The error message (below) suggests that it attempted to handle
the .aspx file using static file handler. I looked at Handler Mappings in IIS Manager, and .aspx is not shown (shown are *.rules *.asmx *.svc *.xoml). Should *.aspx be on this list? Seems like that should be automatic, along with *.ascx , etc. Seems kind
of crazy to be manually adding a .aspx handler.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
Here is the error message
------------------------------------
<div class="content-container">
HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found
The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map.
I recently moved my VS2017 projects folder to a subfolder in my Google drive backup sync folder, and I started to get periodical errors in Visual Studio, related to file access.
Is there another way to get automatic cloud backup of project files, preferably using Google drive?
