My windows xp 64-bit edition disk melted down, so I upgraded to windows 7 a few days ago.
Now I'm trying to install my visual studio 2005 professional on 64-bit windows 7 so I can continue developing my software. However, at or near the end of installation disk #2, a warning dialog of some kind appears, which says:
-----
This program has known compatibility issues.
Check online to see if solutions are available from the microsoft website. If solutions are found, windows will automatically display a website that lists steps you can take.
Program: visual studio 2005
Publisher: Microsoft
Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe
The buttons along the bottom are: "check for solutions online" : "run program" : "cancel"
-----
When I click "check for solutions online", it displays another dialog window with the following contents (when I click "hide" to unhide the following message):

Question #1: What is the so-called "compatibility problem"?
Question #2: How do I get a successful install?
Question #3: If I cannot install this, can I develop my 64-bit application with one of the express editions? Note that my program has 32-bit and 64-bit format assembly-language files (not inline assembly), so I can compile 32-bit and 64-bit versions of my applications. The 64-bit assembly-language file contains 256-bit wide SIMD/AVX/FMA4 instructions.
