Mutiple Web Application and Protection

Hi to all,

I'm getting started a new internet portal and I would a suggestion on how to structure my solution.

In my solution I'll be classic 3-layer projects as "Presentation", "Business Logic" and "Data Access".

|--- Presentation
|--- Business Logic
|--- Data access

In "Presentation" project I would have two area of concern like this:
|---Presentation
     |--- Backend Area (Include a CMS-Like Pages)
     |--- Front-end area (Include the whole site)

Back-end area will need to be protected, such as a login page, and I thought to build this solution not using classic a folder but throw 2 separated Web Application.

Is this solution possible? Web Application can reference each other?

In addiction, should I use the same IIS Web Application for that two projects?

I hope in a your response.

Thanks
